ScienceDaily (2008-01-23) -- Researchers have created the darkest material ever made by man. The material, a thin coating comprised of low-density arrays of loosely vertically-aligned carbon nanotubes, absorbs more than 99.9 percent of light and one day could be used to boost the effectiveness and efficiency of solar energy conversion, infrared sensors and other devices. This week's interesting News Items

so we have the mysterious death of Michael Jackson, as well as the passing of Farah Fawcett and Ed McMahon - Rest in Peace.

Walter Cronkite is on his deathbed, according to reports.

We have the Iran protests and government/theocracy retaliations, the joke that is the 'health insurance' debate (debacle?), and the crazey right-wingers who keep saying that Barak Obama is out to destroy the USA and freedom everywhere (sheesh!)

what will next week bring....stay tuned!

A Tooth, REALLY close up

Having just had some teeth extracted, I found this amazing: (from Boingboing.com and DailyMotion.com)

Let's Make ALL Political Contributions ILLEGAL now!

From Crooks & Liars today:
Here is a list of elected people taking "contributions" (payoffs) and the amounts of bribes being taken. This is just from health care and insurance.
It is mind boggling to think how much these people are taking from others!
Arlen Specter (R-D- PA- $4,026,933)
Max Baucus (DLC- MT- $2,833,731)
Mitch McConnell (R-KY- $2,758,468)

And when you just go right to Big Insurance, the non-presidential candidates who got the biggest legalized bribes were the 7 senators who have been tasked with the job of killing single-payer:

Ben Nelson (DLC-NE- $1,196,799)
Max Baucus (DLC- MT- $1,184,113)
Joe Lieberman (DLC- CT- $1,036,302)
Arlen Specter (R-D- PA- $1,035,530)
Chuck Schumer (D-NY- $981,400)
Mitch McConnell (R-KY- $929,207)
Chuck Grassley (R-IA- $884,724)

What Makes a Successful (photographic) Image?

Interesting article!
by Chris Meier

At some point in their careers, most photographers ask themselves ‘what makes a successful photograph?’ Intrigued by the question, I decided to ask some peers for input.

“Ask 10 photographers that and you’ll probably get 10 different answers,” says Emmanuel Buenviaje, Vancouver photographer and graphic designer. It’s true. READ THE ARTICLE here.
